Information
The Lindsey Flock, so named because we are situated in the Part of Lincolnshire called Lindsey, came into being in 1992
with 2 older ewes purchased from Philip and Julie Rowbotham's Redhouse Flock; the first showing season being
in 1993 at Lincoln where, with beginners luck we were Reserve Champion with a ram lamb and 3rd with a pair of
ewe lambs.
Present numbers in the flock are 15 ewes, 6 ewe lambs and 8 rams. A great influence on the flock was the aquisition
of Pockthorpe Rupert from John and Janet Doughty in 1995. A slightly decrepit, but still working at 1, Rupert is still
with us.
There is but a 21/2 arce field at home most of which is taken for hay; whilst at Brigsley we are kindly allowed
the use of 6 acres and barn which is shared with 4 Border Leicesters and 3 horses. In Febuary all "non-potential"
lambs and mothers are taken there. A further 11/2 acres are taken in Barnoldby-le-Beck.
All slaughter lambs are sold boxed which obviously attracts premium prices well above market value, the down side being
that our nearest slaughter house is now 30 miles away.
The flock is both Maedi-Visna accredited and Scrapie monitored. All rams used on the flock have been Scrapie genotyped
and are either RR. We have applied to be in the National Scrapie plan and are being tested in Febuary 2002.
